Definitions
ACCUPLACER |
A placement test, devised by the College Board, to help assess a student’s math, English, and reading skills. The results are used in conjunction with academic background, goals, and interests to determine program and/or course selection. |
Advanced Standing |
Represents a high school course that has similar content to an MATC course. It is taught by a high school teacher at the high school. A successful student becomes eligible to receive advanced standing credit only after enrolling in an associate degree or a technical diploma program at MATC. |
Advisory Committee |
Composed of business, industry, and labor representatives, as well as past and present students. Each committee provides the district with a review of its curriculum, instructional methods, facilities and staff, and feedback as to how well the program meets the needs and expectations of business and industry. |
Communiques |
A monthly electronic newsletter from the Office of the President summarizing college events and announcements sent to the college community. |
Conversation Days |
Faculty, staff, and administration come together once a year to work to identify processes or activities that would make a difference at MATC and to the students we serve. AQIP Action Projects and “quick fixes” come from the results of these conversations. |
Core Abilities |
The seven common learning objectives (soft skills) infused throughout all our general education courses |
Core Committee |
With equal representation from faculty and staff, co-chaired by a faculty member and a vice-president, these seven committees make recommendations to the president and the board. Each core committee serves a specific purpose related to the mission and vision of the college and is linked to a specific strategic goal. |
Clery Act |
The Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act (Clery Act) is a federal statute requiring all colleges and universities that participate in federal financial aid programs to keep and disclose information about crime on and near their respective campuses. |
Customer Service Survey |
Research study conducted every three years that measures employee satisfaction with specific service areas of the college, including their work areas and campus locations. The last one was conducted in spring 2007. |
DACUM |
State-mandated report “Developing A Curriculum” to create new occupational programs or to make major revisions to current MATC occupational programs |
Displaced Homemaker |
Clients who are adults and have worked for a substantial number of years providing unpaid household services for family members, is not gainfully employed, including unemployed or underemployed and who has had or would have difficulty in securing employment, and has been dependent on the income of another household member but is no longer supported by such income; or has been dependent on public assistance but is no longer eligible for such assistance or who may be terminated from such assistance; or is the parent of a minor child who is supported by public assistance or child support but whose children are within two years of termination from such support. |
Discovery World |
Discovery World Ltd. was formed through a merger with Pier Wisconsin, Ltd. It is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to connect innovation, science and technology with exploration, environment and our Great Lakes freshwater resources through interactive exhibits and experiential learning programs |
Enrollment Funnel |
Displays the strategic enrollment management process as data---from inquiries through applications and registrations to placements in the job market or at another educational institution. The internal website offers college decision-makers with the tools to track and respond to changing enrollment trends. |
Enrollment Funnel Team |
An intercampus, interdepartmental group that meets weekly to examine enrollment findings and make recommendations based on up-to-date enrollment data |
Environmental Scan |
Report exploring the role of external and internal forces affecting MATC, with special attention given to understanding enrollments |

IPS |
The Institutional Priorities Survey, administered bi-annually of employees, assesses college performance and the importance on various attributes significant to students. It is a complement to the Student Satisfaction Inventory. |
Listening & Learning Sessions |
Open meetings held each semester at all four campuses by District Board members to hear from students, community members, and employees at the college. |

Student Satisfaction Inventory |
This biannual on-line Noel Levitz survey collects student perceptions of college services and experiences, allowing an assessment of scores assigned to their importance and satisfaction. It is a complement to the Institutional Priorities Survey. |

Teaching and learning strategy that integrates meaningful community service with instruction and reflection to enrich the learning experience, teach civic responsibility, and strengthen communities |
