Founded in 1912, Milwaukee Area Technical College (MATC) provides the education, skills training, and lifelong learning opportunities that advance careers, change lives, and help to grow the local economy. A public, two-year technical college serving the greater Milwaukee region, MATC has become one of the Midwest’s largest community-based technical colleges, offering multiple paths to success. It is 1 of 16 colleges that make up the Wisconsin Technical College System (WTCS), providing the state with the technical occupations needed for economic development.
MATC equips its students with real world, hands-on experiences that provide the local workforce with the occupational training demanded by area business and industry.
The WTCS Board (WTCSB) establishes statewide policies and standards for the educational programs and services provided by our college. Our district is governed by a nine-member Board of Directors, responsible for the direct operation of the school and its programs. The District Board is empowered to levy property taxes, provide for facilities and equipment, employ staff, contract for services, and manage the district budget. The district includes all of Milwaukee County, most of Ozaukee County, and portions of Waukesha and Washington Counties. The district population was 1.25 million in 2008.
