Software and Plugins
Students should refer to their course syllabi and ask their instructors what software and browser plug-ins they will need for their courses. Please use this list as a general guide for purchasing or locating free downloadable software.
Student Discounted Software
Currently enrolled students can purchase Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Suite, and other software products at substantial discounts through the Wisconsin Integrated Software Catalog (WISC) Website. You must be enrolled in at least one class during this current term to be eligible for purschasing WISC discounted software.
All purchases are done on-line and are shipped to the location you specify usually within 2 days after placing the order.
After entering the site, use the "WTCS Students" menu on the the left side of your screen and select "Milwaukee" from the drop-down menu. You will need your MATC Student ID number to make a purchase but you can browse the inventory and receive information about it without making a purchase.
VMware View Virtual Desktop
MATC offers its students remote access to MATC software applications through the VMware View virtual desktop system. This program will allow you to connect to a networked MATC virtual computer to access such programs as MS Office 2010 and Adobe Creative Suite.
Free Document Viewers and Readers
The following software is available for viewing documents on your computer (i.e. PDFs, PowerPoint slides, Word documents etc.).

Media Plugins and Players
The following software plugins are available for playing audio/video files within your browser or on your computer in a seperate player.
- Windows Media Player (For Windows PCS - 98, ME, NT, XP, Vista, 7)
- Windows Media Player (For Mac)
- Adobe Flash Player
- Shockwave Player
- Authorware Player
- Real Player
Java Applet and Blackboard's Collaboration Tools
Instructors may incorporate the use of Blackboard's collaboration tools, virtual classroom and chat, in their online courses. Students must have a recent installation of Java enabled in their browser in order to use these tools successfully.
