I hope you got through Unit 1 OK. It was quite long but things will ease up a bit as you work through Unit 2. It is only 4 sections long but that also means test #2 will come at you much sooner so please be prepared for that. As you have discovered in Unit 1, this eBook covers a variety of topics, but just as important are the associated discussion topics in the course (either covered during face-to-face classes or in the discussion board if taken online). This is because YOU discover things that take you beyond the pages presented here and/or apply the knowledge you learn here to new situations. It also gives a chance to interact with your instructor (or fellow students in face-to-face classes). With that in mind, please stick to the schedule presented to you by your instructor. It is quite easy to fall behind if you put things off. And now ... on with the show!
Investigating Sensors & Controlling Devices
This unit demonstrates that the physical properties of materials may be exploited to accomplish a specific goal. The world of sensors and controlling devices are explored in this context. We will focus on non-electric applications here and expand on the topic (in the next unit) once you have a background on electricity.
