Taking Tests using the LockDown Browser

  1. Read and understand all the material covered in each unit.  Contact your instructor if you have any questions or experience any problems.

  2. Jot down any (hand written) notes on one - 8½" x 11" sheet of paper (both sides).  You will be able to use this sheet on the unit test as well as the proctored final exam (so do not throw them away after the unit test).

  3. Please take the practice quiz before you attempt a unit test.  This practice quiz has no point value but gives you a chance to see how the LockDown browser works and also gives you an opportunity to see if you are really prepared for the unit test.

  4. Take the unit test within the scheduled times (see the Due Dates icon in Blackboard).  Remember that I will drop the lowest test score at the end of the semester so don't get too discouraged if you score low on any one test.  I know several students have "test anxiety" so there are several activities in this class to help you overcome this common problem.

  5. You can review your tests at any time.   Go to My Grades, then click on the test number (ex, Test 3 - Requires LockDown Browser) ... and then click on the score that appears on the right.

  6. If you fail to take the test during the scheduled period, that test is automatically the lowest score and gets dropped.  You will receive a zero for any additional missed tests.  There are no make-up dates for missed tests unless you provide your instructor a valid and documented excuse PRIOR to the date the test closes.

  7. Each unit test has a one hour time limit and consists of about 34 multiple choice questions.  I will deduct one point for every minute you exceed the time limit.

  8. All practice quizzes, unit tests, and proctored final exam must be taken using the Respondus LockDown Browser.  This browser prevents you from surfing the web for answers.  It is only YOU, your one page of handwritten notes, and a computer.

There are several possible ways to take the unit tests using the LockDown Browser.   Note:  There is no version of LockDown for Chromebook computers since these computers have a unique OS.

The Final Exam is taken in a "virtual classroom".   This means your instructor will check your identity and items you are allowed to use on the exam.  Details about this procedure will be given later in the class.  Regardless, the Final Exam will also be taken with the LockDown browser.  You will be able to use all handwritten notes you used on each of the unit tests.

Please contact your instructor if any of this information is not understood.
