Introduction
Welcome to my online web notes. My name is Jim Mihal, and I have been teaching astronomy since 1976 at MATC (Milwaukee Area Technical College). In an effort to reduce the cost of books for my students, I have posted most of my lecture material on the web. As you read through the material, I would appreciate any feedback, positive or negative, which will help me improve the quality of this project. These notes should (hopefully) help any student taking a first semester college level course in astronomy. In most cases, I will try to explain ideas and concepts on a level that you can understand. I tend to use a non-mathematical style to the subject (whenever possible) because I believe you will appreciate the material much better with a qualitative rather than a quantitative approach.
