Transit of Venus  6-8-2004

On the very early morning of June 8th, 2004, the sun rose with Venus almost completing a very rare event ... a transit across the disk of the sun.  Just as the sun was rising, it was visible to the naked eye.  This image was taken through a 10" SC telescope with a solar filter using a Nikon D100 digital camera.  If you missed it, another transit will occur in 2012.  This only happens twice every 122 years.
