AC generators vs. DC generators

Consider the animation (Java applet) below.  This applet demonstrates that you generate DC current if you choose "with commutator", or AC current if you choose "without commutator".  In either case you should see that the power delivered is not steady, but swings from zero to a maximum value and then back to zero.

Note:  If the Java applet does not load, it is likely one of a couple of things.  Either you don't have Java (download here)  .... or you don't have it enabled for your browser .... or ... your version of Java needs updating .... or your Java settings need to be set to allow specific sites.  I show you how to configure Java in Blackboard under the Miscellaneous icon.  You may need to ADD this web server to your exceptions site list.  It is http://ecampus.matc.edu

Don't put too much time trying to get this to work.  It is just that this Java applet shows everything so well.
