- For each of the following cutaneous sensations, describe the structure,
function, and location of the receptor involved: touch, pressure, vibration,
and pain.
- Provide an overview of the three basic functions of the sensory, motor,
and integrative systems of the nervous system. State what is meant by
adaptation of receptors and provide examples of slow and rapidly adapting
receptors.
- Describe the process of image formation on the retina. Use the terms
refraction, accommodation, and convergence in your answer.
- Describe the anatomical features that provide protection to the delicate
neural portion of the retina and that ensure the retina is kept flat against
the back of the eye.
- Mary's mother always says to her, "Anything I say
goes in one ear and out the other!" Is this possible? Trace the pathway of a
sound vibration from the tympanic membrane to the hearing receptors.
- Distinguish between osseous and membranous labyrinths. Describe the
cochlea and its function. Describe the organs of static and dynamic
equilibrium and their functions.
- Explain the process by which smell sensations are sensed and perceived.
- What is the benefit of having auditory ossicles and muscles in the middle
ear?
